On Sunday 26th May 2013 Jamtan appeared at Chorlton Arts Festival.
On what turned out to be a beautiful day Jamtan were joined on the village green by a healthy crowd who enjoyed some African music and culture in the sun.
A well-received performance – some even found the courage to dance! – was followed by an afternoon of hugely popular workshop sessions where Adama shared some of the basics and his huge passion for African drumming with young and old alike.
The whole day was a huge success and a good time was had by all.

Jamtan at the Dan Melrose recording studio in Manchester.
Jamtan and Dan Melrose, musician and recording artist, got together this April to record a selection of traditional West African drum music classics. During the session we kept things sweet with regular infusions of tea and biscuits and drummed away to our hearts content whilst Dan practised his stupendous recording artistry…what a Day! We’d like to say thanks to Dan for his lovely help. Thanks Dan.

On Thursday 28th February 2013 Neilum held a women’s drum workshop at the Pankhurst Centre in Manchester.
Women at the Thursday drop-in session at The Pankhurst Centre spent their afternoon playing drum music in a Jamtan drumming workshop with Neilum. A couple of the women had tried playing African drums before, but for the majority it was a brand new experience. Even so, by the end of the session they were happily playing a rhythm together on the djembes with bass support from one of the group on the dunduns. All of the women played very well and said they had really enjoyed the experience and would welcome Neilum back at the centre again in future.
